Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George School Board has agreed to participate in a Ministry of Education’s pilot project aimed at finding efficiencies in the area of student transportation.

The ‘Bus Route Optimization Pilot Project’ will be funded by the Province and the district says its participation is expected to identify up to $470,000 in possible efficiencies.

Along with the efficiencies, another goal of the project according to a district report is to “test the assumptions and findings of the business case developed by the Service Delivery Branch’s Transportation Work, and identify recommendations for broader implementation across the K-1 public education sector.”

Further, the Ministry of Education: “Has confirmed that they will provide resources to support the pilot including routing software and subject matter expertise in the development and implementation of student transportation policy.”

3,700 students in the district ride the bus each day and just over $4,535,000 has been budgeted for student transportation next year.
