Prince George, B.C. – BMO KidzArt Dayz was another two-day success in Prince George as youngsters and parents flocked to Canada Games Plaza and Two Rivers Gallery Friday and Saturday.

This was the 26th annual KidzArt Dayz which gives youngsters, and parents and  grandparents, an opportunity to do all sorts of art-related activities.  Out in the plaza kids could paint like any artist or have their face painted, there was Pride art, rocket launching, fingerprint doodles, Friendly Furry Faces, giant sculpture and lots of crafts.

Right about the time the clouds broke open with a good drenching of rain, children’s television entertainer Fred Penner was nearing the conclusion of his performance onstage in the plaza.  He had planned on closing with a number called “Take Good Care of Each Other”, and invited the crowd to sing along.

Well, not being as well-known as say, “Jingle Bells”, not too many knew the words to that one so Fred, being the seasoned performer that he is, looked skyward at the leaking clouds and broke into “You Are My Sunshine”.  All of a sudden he had a grand chorus backing him up, right to the end of the ditty and Mr. Penner’s departure.

Rain being what it is, namely wet, it didn’t take long for many in the crowd to make a mad dash for the dry climate indoors at the Two Rivers Gallery and enjoy the activities there: print making, learning about colour effects, Tie Dye T-shirts, jewelry making, learning how to make and play a native drum and many other things to participate in.

Or, if a little solitude was the order of the day, one could slip off to the side, away from the crowd, and tinkle the ivories awhile.
