NCLGA President Preps For First Board Meeting
Prince George, B.C.- Laurey-Anne Roodenburg has been President of the North Central Local Government Association for about two months, but today she will chair her first Board Meeting.
“I don’t know if I would say there are any big issues for the NCLGA right now” says Roodenburg who is a Councillor with the City of Quesnel. “Our work is put forward by the resolutions put forward during the AGM, so we’ll be looking at those resolutions to see what we want to work hard on . They ( resolutions) all move forward to the UBCM ( Union of BC Municipalities), but we’ll be looking at our priorities and I think we’ll probably be looking at what kind of meetings we want to have with the Ministers ( Provincial).”
Having First Nations at the NCLGA table is a welcome addition says Roodenburg “Issues are issues, whether or not you’re First Nations, and when you can work together, good things happen.”
Today may be the first Board meeting that she will chair, but she says she doesn’t see herself banging the gavel “I’m very inclusive in how I am in politics, and I like to work on consensus. It doesn’t always happen, but it’s something you like to strive for and I allow people to have their own opinion. People look at the issues as what is good for the entire region, not just what’s good for their own community, they look at what’s good for whole North Central region.”
