Planned Power Outage to Affect 9,000 BC Hydro Customers Sunday Morning

Saturday, July 23, 2016 @ 6:52 AM

Prince George, B.C. – B.C. Hydro is reminding customers of the planned power outage scheduled to take place early Sunday morning.

Spokesperson Bob Gammer says it will take place from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m. and affect approximately 9,000 customers north of the Nechako River.

“The only exception will be North Nechako Road. Customers on that road, we’re going to be able to do a little switching to keep them on,” he says.

“But everybody else is going to be out so that’s the Hart, that’s Ness Lake, Nukko Lake, Chief Lake up to Salmon Valley.”

Gammer says the work is necessary to remove a transmission structure that runs west of Foothills Boulevard up to the Chief Lake substation.

“We’re taking these structures out because the ground there is eroding and rather than just leave it and get into a situation where we have a power outage because the poles have failed, we’re going to be proactive and remove that now and bolster the transmission structures on either side of this structure in question.”

He “fully expects” the power to be restored by 10 a.m. but encourages anyone experiencing a power outage after 10 a.m. to give BC Hydro a call at 1-888-POWERON.
