CNC Clears Air on Layoffs
Prince George, B.C. – The dust has finally settled on the layoffs issued earlier this year at the College of New Caledonia.
In a statement the College says the current status of the seven faculty members who received layoff notices on March 31, 2016 with effective dates of July 31, 2016 are as follows:
- Five notices were rescinded
- One layoff proceeded on July 31, 2016
- One notice was accepted and the employee took an early retirement option.
The rescinded layoffs follow an unexpected $1.8 million surplus from the 2015/16 budget. The College had prepared that budget expecting a deficit of $2.8 million.
CNC adds there have also been two operational layoff notices provided for the 2016-2017 fiscal year and note one notice “was accepted while the other is currently being worked through.”
“This employee has the option to exercise their bumping rights as laid out in our collective agreement.”
