Registration Extended for Back to School Celebration

Saturday, August 20, 2016 @ 6:55 AM

Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Native Friendship Centre (PGNFC) has extended registration for their Back to School Celebration on September 6.

Jennifer Harrington, the agencies director of social housing, says the deadline to register has been extended from August 26th to September 2nd.

“We’re just making sure that we reach all the families that want to get some school supplies and a backpack for their kids.”

She says parents can register at the reception desk at the PGNFC (1600-3rd Ave) from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

She notes last year’s inaugural event was an overwhelming success and is expecting the same this year.

Harrington is pretty sure she knows why.

“I think school supplies are extremely expensive and so to give an opportunity for families to come down and get a kick-start on the purchasing of school supplies and a backpack just gets people revved up about going back to school.”

She adds there will also be a photo booth, face-painting, free haircuts and a free lunch out of their Smoke House food truck.

The event is a partnership between the PGNFC, the Royal Bank of Canada, the Rina M. Bidin Foundation along with other community sponsors.

The event will run from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
