Census – Best Ever says Minister
Prince George, B.C. – The Federal Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, Navdeep Bains, says the 2016 Census was the most successful census in Canadian history.
“The data collected during the 2016 Census will paint a detailed picture of our nation and the communities in which we live. With an overall response rate of 98.4 percent, the census will also provide the high-quality information needed to plan critical services such as child care, housing and public transportation for all Canadians.”
Bains says the decision to move back to the long-form census was “the right one” with a 97.8% response rate for the long form.
Stats Canada will publish its initial results from the 2016 census within 6 months, and will launch a schedule for a more timely release of the complete results.

Thanks Liberals for getting us back to where we were before the Conservatives got in. Nice to be at a place where important policy and program decisions can now be made based on facts and evidence!
you mean like more taxes, more unemployed immigrants and things like that? Yeah , he’s just like his dad allright.
Could of shortened it by not asking the same question over and over
JGalt. As usual you are shooting from the lip. If we went back to where we were before the Conservatives got in we would be in the middle of the
**Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities** A Royal Commission headed by John Gomery for the purpose of investigating the Sponsorship Scandal, which involved allegations of corruption within the Canadian Government**
This inquiry was partly responsible for Jean Chretien’s stepping down as Prime Minister and Paul Martin becoming Prime Minister. The Harper Conservatives were elected Jan 23/2006 and his first bill was the Federal Accountability Act.
The Sponsorship Scandal was a huge Canadian embarrassment and hundreds of millions of dollars were involved. In fact it was the primary reason the Liberal lost their majority.
Some of the Liberals involved were given jail time.
One got 18 months, another 30 months, and the third Chuck Guite was sentenced to three and on half years.
So you may want to rethink your desire to go back to the times before the Conservatives were elected.
I suggest you do less talking and more learning.
Meh, got any pictures of them in handcuffs and leg irons, like this one of the former Conservative “Ethics Commissioner”?

Its rather interesting that the Conservative Government brought in the voluntary census short form and eliminated the long form.
The Liberals have now reinstated the MANDATORY long form. The fine for not filling out the mandatory form is $500.00 or three months in jail.
Perhaps that explains why they got such a high return. In addition in this day of computers they were quickly able to track those who did not file and advise them to complete the form or face the consequences.
Liberals and Lefties like to try and paint the Conservatives as the party that brow beats its citizens, however this is not the case.
98.4 response rate my ass.
Nice try at deflection JGalt. However I have go give you a D.
Take a look at your 6:43 pm comment Palopu, I am not the one who changed subjects from the 2016 census to a history lesson, more than a decade ago, about some sponsorship scandal. I have no idea what that has to do with the 2016 census… so if you can selectively bring up Liberal history, why can’t I about Conservative history?
