Prince George, B.C. – Yet another sign that summer is drawing to a close.

Effective at noon today the Prince George Fire Centre will once again allow Category 2 open fires throughout the region due to cooler temperatures.

Category 2 fires are fires that burn material in piles smaller than two metres high and three metres wide.

They are also fires that burn stubble or grass over an area smaller than 2,000 square metres.

Fire information officer Amanda Reynolds reminds anyone wishing to light a Category 3 fire to first obtain a burn registration number by calling 1-888-797-1717 and comply with air quality control legislation.

Category 3 fires are fires that burn material larger than two metres high and three metres wide; burn stubble or grass over an area greater than 2,000 square metres; and burns more than two piles of any size.

She says campfires are also still allowed and must be smaller than a half-metre and a half-metre wide.
