Biggest Labour Day Celebration Yet

Prince George, B.C. – A big party is planned for this coming Labour Day Monday in Prince George and everyone is invited.

It’s being coordinated by the North Central Labour Council (NCLC) and the Labour Day Organizing Committee and will take place on the front lawn outside Prince George City Hall.

“The theme of the festivities this year is ‘Labour movement – past, present, future – fighting for the rights of all,” says NCLC president Don Iwaskow. “The purpose is just to highlight labour’s role in the community and the many contributions we make to the community.”

He says it will include keynote speakers, free food and all sorts of family fun including music, and games for kids.

Iwaskow remarks the event is the biggest labour day celebration yet.

“Yes, it is. In past years’ individual unions have gone out and done smaller events like down in Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park – that sort of thing. This is the first year we have partnered with close to 20 unions and business sponsors as well.”

He adds unions remain as vital today as ever before.

“They offer fairness for all. We want everyone to work, come home and have a good life for themselves and their families at the end of the day.”

The event will start at 11:00 a.m. with a march through downtown. The City Hall lawn celebration begins at noon.
