Men Wanted for Wellness Initiative

Thursday, September 15, 2016 @ 5:50 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Local men working in construction, transportation, and resource industries are being sought to participate in a wellness initiative.

The program is called Heads Up and the goal is to help guide the development of a workplace-based program to help improve Northern men’s well-being.

The project is looking for 25 to 30 men for discussions on September 19, 23, and 26. The discussions on the 19 and 23 will run from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. while the session on Sept. 26 will run from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

“We really want the program to be something that’s designed by men for men,” says Cherisse Seaton, UNBC adjunct professor in the Psychology program. “And so a key priority for us is getting feedback and input from men that work in northern communities because they’re really in the position to tell us what works.”

She says the upcoming sessions will follow up on similar discussions held last spring.

“These initial discussions generated ideas of possible components to include a workplace wellness program. The next step is to get further feedback from Northern men on these components, so that they are engaged in each step in this program’s development.”

Those interested in participating can either call Seaton at 250-649-7138 or send her an email at Cherisse.Seaton@unbc.ca.

Those who participate will receive $40 and free food.
