Cougars Fly Out of the Gate In Victoria
Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Cougars are off to a 2 and 0 start to the new WHL season after going into Victoria this weekend and sweeping the Royals, BC Division and league regular season champions last spring.
Kody MacDonald scored two goals and Brad Morrison and Jared Bethune each had four assists on the night as the Cougars dumped the Royals 5-1 Saturday night. The other Cougars’ markers came from Justin Almeida, defenceman Ryan Schoettler with his first WHL goal and Colby McAuley with his third of the weekend. The Cougars led 3-0 after one period, 3-1 after two and then added two more in the third to sew it up.
Both teams went 0 for 5 on the power play.
The Cougars received stellar goaltending over the two contests as Nick McBride stopped 36 of 37 shots Saturday night while Ty Edmonds was 30 for 31 the night before.
The Cougars finish off this four-game road trip with games against the Vancouver Giants Tuesday and Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday. The Cats host the Rockets in their home opener at CN Centre Friday night.
