Canfor Signs on As Telus Cup Sponsor
Prince George, B.C. – The Telus Cup is set to take place in Prince George April 24-30 , 2017 and Canfor has signed on a Community Sponsor for the event.
The Telus Cup is the national Midget Hockey Championship in Canada.
“Canfor is proud to officially sign on as a Community Sponsor of the 2017 TELUS Cup,”said Don Kayne, president and CEO of Canfor Corporation. “It is a great opportunity to continue our tradition of supporting events in our communities and help showcase the great spirit of Prince George.”
The host Cariboo Cougars of the B.C. Major Midget League will welcome five regional champions from across Canada (Atlantic, Central, Pacific, Quebec, West) to the CN Centre for the 2017 TELUS Cup.
This is the fourth time the tournament has been hosted in British Columbia, and the second for Prince George. Prince George Cougars served as host team for the championship in 2001 when it was called the Air Canada Cup.
A number of future NHL players have taken part in Canada’s National Midget Championship since its inception in 1974, including 53 first-round draft picks, three No.1 selections (Gord Kluzak, Wendel Clark and Sidney Crosby) and eight future Hockey Hall of Fame inductees (Glenn Anderson, Ron Francis, Mike Gartner, Al MacInnis, LarryMurphy, Patrick Roy, Joe Sakic and Steve Yzerman).
