RCMP Investigates Threat to Schools

Thursday, October 6, 2016 @ 9:36 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Area schools are on high alert following a threat made on a local social media page.policecarnew

Prince George RCMP Corporal Craig Douglass isn’t naming the page but says the threats were made last night and depict a cartoon banner photo that includes firearms. He says the posts indicate that Prince George schools may be targeted.

“We are working with School District 57 and private schools in the area to ensure the safety of all children in our schools,” he says. “We are asking all area schools to keep children inside, restrict movement and lock external doors.”

Douglass calls it “a non-credible threat” but notes police are taking “this page and the many comments on it very seriously and have been engaged throughout the night.”

He also notes police have no evidence to support violent action will take place but are concerned and “will act with an abundance of caution.”

Douglass says similar pages were created throughout the country yesterday with no violence reported.

He says updates will be provided as they become available.

Any updates? Absolutely no direction for parents.

And with early dismissal this week it’s going to be a zoo at 1:30 ish.

would it be too much to ask to have the rcmp send a car to each school, or area? There isn’t that many schools

Apparently 8 to 10 cars were at PGSS, and a couple at Duchess Park. It has to do with some ridiculous “Clown” thing that was started in the states. Kids

Pretty frustrated that parents were not notified about this situation. They knew about this last night……I would have kept my 6 year old home safe today.

The same thing happened in Fort McMurray a couple days ago. Arrests were made. Follow up reporting indicated that it was a hoax that a young female posted online.

I think parents weren’t notified because everybody appears to have completely freaked out. The police had investigated and determined it was hoax. The code yellow was a precaution. Nobody was ever in any danger. But now I’m sure there are a ton of little kids who are scared based purely on the overreacting of their parents.
