Prince George, B.C. – A Prince George man is in police custody after being suspected in the theft of both a car and an expensive piece of jewellery.

RCMP Corporal Craig Douglass says it all started yesterday morning at around 8:30 a.m. when police received a report of a stolen vehicle from the 4700 block of 1st Avenue. He says it had been stolen sometime earlier that day.

Fast forward to 1:00 p.m. yesterday when Douglass says police spotted the vehicle being driven near the junction of Highway 16 and Highway 97.

He says police located the vehicle a short time later on Landsdowne Road and called in the Police Dog Service to assist.

Douglass says police service dog ‘Dero’ was deployed to track the suspect and nabbed the suspect a short time later.

He says as the suspect was being arrested, the same stolen vehicle was determined to be involved in the theft of an $8,800 necklace from a local jewellery store a few minutes earlier. The suspect was subsequently searched and found to be in possession of the necklace.

The suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Sam Anthony Rossetti, who Douglass says has a “significant police history.”

Rossetti was held overnight and was to appear in court today facing the following charges:

  • Theft over $5,000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $2,500 (2 counts)
  • Resist Arrest
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle while Disqualified
  • Fail to Comply with a Probation Order
