Mackenzie, B.C. – The District of Mackenzie is in the midst of a branding effort to help attract business and new investments to the community.

Mayor Pat Crook says the process began last spring with an open house, continued with a public survey over the summer and will continue this month with a branding workshop.

He says the results of the survey will soon be presented to district council and isn’t sure what they’ll hear back.

“But I think any time you involve the public and get them interested in the process you’re bound to have better results than just going alone and doing it.”

Crook says a few years ago the district branded itself solely for tourism which led to the slogan ‘The Sky’s the Limit” but notes they’re looking for something more rounded this time.

“I think this time we’re going to go for more of an all-encompassing approach. I mean the outdoors and outdoor activities must be a part of it but there’s other things as well – arts and culture, First Nations cultures and all that kind of stuff that’s involved too. So, I’m not sure what the end result is going to be but I’m looking forward to finding out.”

Crooks expects the process, which will result in a new district logo, will be completed by the end of the year.

They generate power and have industrial land. They could get in on the growing legalized weed boom that is just around the corner.

How about starting a Wikipedia page for starters . The district of Mackenzie in newzealand has one . That district looks like it’s worth visiting .

I go to MacKenzie a couple of times a year just for the drive, and to visit the Golf Course, and have a burger.

Pretty nice country, but not too much going on. Like most small cities and towns in North Central BC they are just holding on. Not sure what they can do to turn things around.

My guess is that every man and his dog will try to get into the marijuana game, however it will be the big dogs that will control the production and distribution of pot, and the Government will collect the taxes, and the average citizen will pay for the fall out.

I know that tattoos and piercings are in vogue, but isn’t branding rather extreme?
