Colleen Fitzpatrick Chosen National Silver Cross Mother
Prince George, B.C.- When Prince George gathers around the Cenotaph in front of Prince George City Hall this November 11th, Colleen and Jim Fitzpatrick will not be able to attend.
There is a very good reason for their absence, as Colleen has been chosen to be the National Memorial (Silver) Cross Mother, and will be placing a wreath at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, on behalf of all Canadian mothers who have lost a son or daughter in the military in the course of his or her normal duty. Colleen’s husband Jim will be accompanying her.
Colleen and Jim’s son, Corporal Darren Fitzpatrick died in March of 2010 from injuries sustained when he stepped on an IED while on patrol near Kandahar Afghanistan.
Now, through to October 31st of next year, she will be called upon to perform other duties honouring the Fallen from all conflicts.

It is a proud yet sad duty for the family
I drove by the Darren Fitzpatrick Bravery Park Skate Board Park in the Hart today. It was great to see lots of kids outside enjoying this new facility. It is my hope that they understand who Darren Fitzpatrick was and why the park was named in his honour!
My thoughts will be with the Fitzpatrick family on Remembrance Day. Their family has done wonderful things for our community in honour of their sons memory. We should all take a moment to think of the sacrifice that Corporal Darren Fitzpatrick made for his country, and for his family that was left behind.
