Prince George, B.C. – A flag-raising was held outside city hall to recognize Rotary Week in Prince George this morning.

“It’s a great time to celebrate the great work that our three clubs do in the community and this is leading up to our major fundraiser, the Big Blue Ball on Saturday,” said Rotary Club of Prince George president Ross Birchall.

“It’s also time for us to celebrate the Rotary Foundation’s centennial. So, 100 years of doing good around the world.”

He said locally that includes Rotary’s $36,000 contribution for the skate park at Corporal Darren Fitzpatrick Bravery Park in the Hart and more.

“Last year we put in the bike rack network downtown; we just partnered with the city to put the banners downtown, which are helping to beautify the area.”

Mayor Lyn Hall was also on hand to express his thanks to Rotary for perhaps their largest contribution, the Rotary Soccer Fields.

“I think that’s probably one of the most prominent ones, most used. You drive by the soccer fields and that’s a Rotary project and it’s been there for a number of years and at one time there was over 3,000 kids in our city using the Rotary Fields so they do a tremendous amount of work in our community.”
