Pedestrian Died in Saturday Night Incident
Prince George, B.C. RCMP In Prince George have now confirmed one person died in the incident which resulted in the closure of the northbound lanes of the John Hart Bridge on Saturday evening.
Around 7 pm Saturday November 12th, police and emergency services responded to a report of a collision involving one vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Highway 97 and 5th Avenue.. ( see previous story)
A 30 year old man was rushed to hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.
Although the investigation is continuing, initial indications are that the adult male driver of a north bound SUV was proceeding through the intersection on a green light when the pedestrian stepped out onto the travel portion of the roadway. The pedestrian was wearing all dark clothing and it was dark & raining at the time of the incident. Alcohol or other drugs are not believed to have been a factor.
Police would like to remind pedestrians to wear bright, reflective clothing and always obey traffic laws. Drivers should remain alert for pedestrians & bicyclists at all times.
