Prince George, B.C. – Prince George hosted Canada in 2015, next it will host the world in 2019.
Today the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club announced it has landed the 2019 World Para-Nordic Skiing Championships at Otway Nordic Centre.
The event will run Feb.15-24, 2019 and feature approximately 140 athletes from 20 countries.
It will mark the first-time Prince George has hosted a world championship and comes on the heels of its successful hosting of the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
“This just builds on the 2015 Canada Winter Games legacy that we have and it’s an unbelievable event,” said a jubilant Mayor Lyn Hall. “We’re now bringing the world to Prince George in 2019 to participate in this event and it’s one of those events we really hoped we could attract because of the legacy of our facilities and that’s what this is about.”
He added the economic impact will be undeniable.
“It will be a huge economic boost. So we talk about sports tourism in Prince George and throughout the province and this is going to add to that particular piece of our strategy,” said Hall.
“We’re looking at trying to attract more sporting events to Prince George and it boosts our economy not only locally but regionally.”

This is great news. I had the opportunity to see some para-nordic athletes compete at the CWG and they were fantastic to watch. Very exciting sport to watch.
Wahoo
First baseball, now cross country skiing. hell yeah PG
No one made any money on the 5 team, 14 day Baseball Challenge. The 3 day, 77 team Fastball Championship, on the other hand, was a huge success that was unfortunately ignored by the Mayor and Council.
I don’t believe that the organizers would be looking to make a huge profit out of this event, a small one maybe for the club. The benefits would come from all the out-of-town athletes and their entourages staying in local hotels/motels, eating out, using local shops, etc. etc.
