policecarnewPrince George, B.C. -One man is in  custody following a break and enter  in  the Hart area of Prince George.

Just after noon  yesterday,  a male was  found inside a Valleyview  Drive home.   The suspect claimed to be a police officer,  and fled the scene in a black Dodge pick-up before  police were called.

Prince George RCMP  officers  were on their way  to the  b&e scene  when they spotted the suspect  vehicle  heading southbound on Highway 97.

Police activated  emergency lights , but the suspect vehicle  failed to pull over.  According to police,  the  pick up  sped up  and  fled the area. Although police did not initiate a pursuit, moments later, the suspect  vehicle  lost control, struck a postal box and hit the ditch near the corner of Sloan  and Shamrock roads.

Police say the lone suspect  fled the vehicle  on foot and tried to break in to another  residence.   The Dog Service was called in,  and a suspect was arrested a short time later hiding  in a neighbouring yard.  He was taken to hospital for treatment of minor  dog bite wounds.

A search of the  vehicle  revealed a loaded SKS rifle  that had been stolen from a  Prince George residence  on December 18th.
