McBride, B.C. – Anyone interested in running for public office in McBride can file their papers starting today.
The community is looking to fill three councillor positions after three councillors resigned in November leaving just Mayor Loranne Martin and Councillor Rick Thompson to carry on village business.
There are three different ways to file your papers:
- By hand, mail or other delivery service to the chief elections officer at the Regional District Office on George Street.
- In person (by appointment only) to the deputy chief elections officer at the Village of McBride.
- By fax or email to the chief elections officer (fax # is 250-563-7520, email is kjensen@rdffg.bc.ca).
The by-election has been set for Saturday, March 4 and papers must be filed by Jan. 27.
The resignations meant no quorum for council meetings so the province stepped in and given the village special permission to have a quorum.
The provincial government has also appointed an advisor to the village to assist in maintaining stability.
