Baggage Screening Upgrades at YXS

Tuesday, January 24, 2017 @ 11:42 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Passengers travelling in and out of YXS starting next Monday can expect to see some temporary changes.

The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority will begin upgrades to its baggage screening system.

The changes mean a temporary baggage screening machine will be placed in the Internationals Area. Those travelling with bags must go to the Internationals Area for baggage screening, then make their way though pre-board screening and into the Boarding Lounge to catch their flight.

YXS says it’s the same process travellers went though in 2014 when the entire baggage belt system was replaced.

So, why the upgrades?

“Well, it’s an upgrade to the backup house systems that are in place to transport bags from A to B,” says director of operations Cuyler Green.

“There’s been some challenges with how the bags are processed and so we’ve had a few jams that required more human intervention to clear than we wanted. So, these changes just sort of remove that likelihood and lessen the chance that people have to twist and move them though the system.”

Work on the upgrades is expected to last three weeks.

Sounds like the 2014 upgrade was inadequately designed, unless they have made operational changes.

Sounds like jargon to me.
