Quesnel, B.C. – Construction crews continue to make progress on the new 1,400 seat arena in town, the West Fraser Centre.

This week in a posting on the city website, it was noted the roof air and vapour barrier is now complete while the first layer of torch-on roof membrane is 70 per cent complete.

Sixty per cent of the east wall is also finished while doors are in the process of being installed on the building’s exterior. Full enclosure of the structure is expected within the next week.

Handrail and change room installation is also in progress while electrical, plumbing and mechanical installation work continues.

The city also notes the project continues to be on schedule for completion this September and on budget at $20.6 million.

Along with the seating arrangement, the new arena, which will be located next to where the Twin Arenas are currently located, will have an Olympic-sized hockey rink and will allow for other events like trade shows and concerts.

The official opening has been set for Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017.
