Prince George, B.C.- BC Hydro is prepping for the annual task of replacing hydro poles in Prince George.
In all, 157 aging poles in P.G. will be changed for new ones.
In order to ensure the safety of workers, there are expected to be power outages in the areas where replacement work is being undertaken. B.C. Hydro says it will be notifying customers of the planed outages ahead of time.
The poles being replaced are, on average, between 40 and 50 years old. Adverse weather, insects and wildlife all have an impact on the deterioration of the poles.
The Prince George replacements are among 10 thousand poles throughout the province which will be replaced this year.
Comments
The Radio said there would be “No Power Outages” during changeovers,
Here they say there will be — Which is right ?
Plus — Why not instead of replacing Poles — Put the Lines Underground.
There would be no more need to replace poles and Looks Better.
The cost of going underground is 3 to 10 times the cost of overhead especially when it comes to transmission lines.
Underground cables also are life limited. All underground cables are being replaced in College Hts. for example.
As for outages may or not be needed depending on each job.
