Kickoff to Spring Cleanup this Weekend
Prince George, B.C. – Earth Day will be marked with a celebration at the Prince George Farmers’ Market this Saturday.
Starting at 9:30 a.m., it will start with the unveiling of ‘The Salmon Beauty’ mural, commissioned by local artist Clayton Gauthier who says the mural was inspired by the importance of food security.
“The Salmon represents the most important source of food security for the traditional people of this territory even to this day. They are the connection to our lands that many powerful animals depend on.”
In addition to the unveiling of the mural, the event – organized by Downtown Prince George and its partner groups – serves as the kick-off to Spring Clean-up Week.
Attendees will be able to register for Spring Clean-up (scheduled for Sunday, April 30) from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be live music, vendors, and kids’ crafts.
Also on Saturday, London Drugs will be hosting an environmentally friendly recycling event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Parkwood Place.
Residents are encouraged to bring their old electronics and small appliances for recycling including TVs, VCRs, computers, small appliances (purchased at London Drugs), Styrofoam, cell phones, alkaline batteries and compact fluorescent bulbs.

It could start sooner . the side of the roads are a disgusting mess, I pick up as much as I can in my neighborhood. The ditch on the right exit onto the Fraser bridge going south looks like a dump. Visitors must think what a dump. City works could be picking this stuff up all day long, put a couple trucks driving around for that purpose only, sure would improve the cities image.
If and when you come across areas that look like a dump, call city hall. They will send crews out to clean it up.
We should not feel too bad when the spring weather exposes all the garbage. The entire province is in the same boat. Having travelled extensively this winter I see other communities with just as much if not more garbage. The other day I noticed a pedestrian carelessly tossing a can of pop (or whatever) onto the side of the road. I really don’t understand this mentality. They simply toss it away and don’t look back.
I would like to thank all volunteers for their hard work and dedication to cleaning up the mess others leave behind. London Drugs is helping by giving us the opportunity to drop electronics off at a convenient location as well.
People shouldn’t have to call. I am sure the city workers have driven past it a couple hundred times in the past 40 days since the snow has been gone. That ditch and every other garbage filled ditch in this town.
