Join in the Chinook Fry Release on Sunday
Prince George, B.C. – The Spruce City Wildlife Association is inviting the public down to the Cottonwood Island Park Boast Launch on Sunday for a gigantic fish release.
Salmon Send-off 2017 is the event as SCWA releases 2,000 Chinook salmon fry into the Nechako River as they begin their long journey to the Pacific Ocean. The fry have been raised from eggs at the association’s hatchery after the successful catch of brood stock last September.
The association hopes as many kids as possible will turn out to help with the release. Each child will get their own fish to release into the river and will get a certificate as well. The hope is that the experience will help foster a life-long attachment to the outdoors.
It all gets underway at the boat launch at 11 Sunday morning, rain or shine. The fry release will be followed by an Open House and barbeque at the Hatchery on River Road.
It’s a family event and there is no charge.
