Sport Fields Remain Closed
Prince George, B.C. – With April being the wettest April on record, it’s no wonder the city of Prince George has not yet been able to open the sport fields in the City.
The sport fields remain closed, but Parks staff are evaluating the fields today and tomorrow and a decision is expected later this week on when the fields may be ready for play.
Right now, allowing activity on the fields could be damaging to the turf, and possibly result in injury to a player.
Playing on a ball diamond or sport field too early or too late in the year can cause irreparable damage to the root system and weaken the turf for the season. It is essential to allow turf to establish proper root systems to ensure fields are healthy and safe.
City staff work closely with community user groups, such as Prince George Youth Soccer and Prince George Youth Baseball, to ensure Prince George has high-quality playing surfaces throughout the season.
