Rockslide Closes Highway 16

Friday, May 5, 2017 @ 10:12 AM

Prince Georg e, B.C. – If you were planning on heading to Jasper this weekend, you may want to rethink those plans.

Highway 16 from Jasper to the West Gate of Jasper National Park is closed due to a rockslide this morning.

“The slide has blocked the Trans-Canada Yellowhead Highway (Highway 16 West) in both directions,” says Joseph Zebrowski of Parks Canada. “Emergency personnel are on the scene.”

No word yet on when the highway may reopen. For updates, check the Drive BC website.

There was also an avalanche today, closing the Banff/Jasper Parkway!

ARGH! We have to be in Calgary Monday morning. Kootenay route takes 14 hrs!!

Why wouldn’t you head south to Kamloops and then east on Hwy 1?

In any event, don’t worry! With global warming, er climate change, all of the snow should all have melted off the road by tomorrow! ;-)
