Fishing Derby to Raise Funds for Kordyban Lodge

Thursday, May 25, 2017 @ 5:50 AM

Prince George, B.C. – A fishing derby set for this weekend is aiming to reel in some funds to help support the Kordyban Lodge in Prince George.

The 8th annual fundraiser will take place this Saturday at Purden Lake and has been organized by EDI – an environmental consulting firm with several offices, including one in Prince George.

“The goal is to have fun and to get as much as we can in donations,” says president Bob Redden. “Over the past seven years we’ve raised around $65,000.”

He says the fundraiser was inspired by EDI founder Dwight Hickey, who lost his battle to cancer in 2001.

“For me personally, that’s what inspired me to take part in the Relay for Life cancer fundraiser and it’s why we started donating to the Canadian Cancer Society,” says Redden.

“We did golf tournaments for years but we changed course considering we’re in the environmental consulting business and we have lot of biologists working for us. It just made sense.”

The Kordyban Lodge provides “a home away from home” for those receiving cancer treatment in Prince George. It opened in 2013.

Tickets for the derby cost $40 per person or $100 per family and includes lunch and the opportunity to win several door prizes.

You can register by clicking here or by purchasing your ticket (s) on site at the Purden Lake boat launch from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
