Springwood Elementary to Get its Playground

Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George school board approved the installation of an adventure playground at Springwood Elementary at its regular monthly public board meeting last night.

The lack of a playground at the school had been a concern expressed by parents at the community information meeting held at Kelly Road Secondary School last month.

At that meeting Marilyn Marquis-Forster, superintendent of schools, assured parents the issue had been addressed and that a playground would be installed in time for the reopening of the school in September.

Last night trustee Bruce Wiebe told the Board that the school district submitted a request to the Ministry of Education for the capital costs of re-opening Springwood, including a new playground, and that the request had been granted (though details regarding the size and coat of the playground aren’t available yet).

“The district is committed to ensuring that Springwood has a playground in place, that’s part of the plan to open,” said chair Tim Bennett.

Last night the Board also approved the installation of two other adventure playgrounds – at Blackburn Elementary ($12,100) and Ecole Lac Des Bois ($47,000).

Those playgrounds have been funded and paid for by the parent advisory councils at both schools.
