Quesnel, B.C. – The BC Wildfire Service is responding to a 50-hectare wildfire about five kilometres south of Pantage Lake and 40 kilometres northwest of Quesnel.

The fire was reported yesterday but according to the BC Wildfire Service it does not pose an immediate threat to public safety or property right now.

Cariboo Fire Centre fire information officer Natasha Broznitsky says firefighters have the support of airtankers, a helicopter and heavy equipment.

“Thirty-seven firefighters are currently working to establish control lines around the perimeter. The fire is currently classified as out of control and is zero per cent contained.”

She urges people to stay “well away from the area where this wildfire is burning, since their presence could put the safety of firefighters and others at risk.”
