Prince George, B.C.-  The latest  stats from  Canada Mortgage and Housing indicate  a boost in the number of  single and multiple  family  housing units started last month in Prince George.

Last month, there were 26 single family homes  starting construction , more than double the 12  started in the same month a year ago.

As for multiple  family units  CMHC  says there were  8 such starts in May,  up from  3  in May of 2016.

The year to date  numbers are not as encouraging.

Between January 1st and May 31st of this year  there had been 55 single family home starts compared to 51 during the same period in 2016.   There was a more significant difference in the number of multiple unit starts.  In the first  five months of last year there had been 116 such starts, compared to just 24  from January to end of May  this year.
