Prince George, B.C. – It’s been quite the week for Myles Mattilla.

The Prince George Secondary Student and former Cariboo Cougar has nabbed two scholarships and a trophy for his mental health advocacy.

He won a $1,000 scholarship from the Overwaitea Food Group, was one of just four B.C. students to win a $2,500 Trevor Linden Community Scholarship, and received a trophy from the BC Hockey League.

It all stems from Mattilla’s development of Mindright.info last year – a website which aims to create an open environment that encourages discussion of mental health issues.

“It’s a big honour. It’s nice to be recognized, however I’ll still be continuing my work with Mindright,” Mattilla tells 250News. “The extra money will be nice too. It gives me more time to promote mental health and play hockey.”

He says the money will go towards a four-year business degree at Okanagan College. Ultimately his goal is to become a lawyer.

“I enjoy business and I hope to get into the mental health field as a lawyer so I can continue to promote mental health.”

Mattilla will also be back on the ice next year playing for the Junior B Kelowna Chiefs.
