Survive Outside Program Coming to P.G.
Prince George, B.C. – Outdoor enthusiasts should circle July 28 on their calendars.
That’s the night BC AdventureSmart – with support from Prince George Search and Rescue – will present their ‘Survive Outside’ workshop for free inside the Canfor Theatre at UNBC from 7-9 p.m.
“It’s basically all about education and awareness,” says Trent Blair, northern director for AdventureSmart and vice-president of Prince George Search and Rescue. “The things that you will learn here could be the difference of it being a survival situation or if you’re properly prepared, an extended holiday camping trip.”
He says they’re targeting people from the ages of 17 or 18 to 35 to 40 (though all ages are welcome).
So, what’s the goal of the workshop?
“Back in 1991 search and rescues across B.C. responded to about 400 incidents annually. Now in 2017 we’re approaching 1,600 annually,” says Blair. “So, we’re trying to prevent people from needing search and rescue or stabilizing our call volume. But we will always come if needed of course.”
He says the workshop will include a presentation and a panel discussion with members of Prince George Search and Rescue.
