Hospice Launches Bucket List Initiative

Thursday, June 22, 2017 @ 5:45 PM

Prince George, B.C. – Bucket lists,  the things you would like to accomplish, the dream  you would like to fulfil during  your life.   A new initiative has been started in Prince George to make  those dreams come true.

It’s a two part initiative  says  PG Hospice Society executive Director Donna Flood “We want to create a community that is committed to understanding how important it is to pause and do the things you  need to do to fulfill your bucket list.”

Part one  will   involve  commenting on a facebook page,  (Bucket List PG)  sharing your bucket list  items.  That facebook page will also allow local businesses to step up  and  fulfill some of those dreams. “It’s a two fold opportunity about engaging people in the community and  those in the community  who want to fulfill those  wishes.”

She encourages people to  post  videos or images of themselves achieving their  bucket list goals  and to use #bucketlistpg  on twitter  and the facebook page.

Part two  is a gala event  set for September 22nd at the Civic Centre.   An individual ticket for this  dinner and speaker event  will  include  an opportunity  for the ticket purchaser to  list three items they would like to  achieve in this life.   The “A” item  would be the  one that is  probably the most  difficult to  achieve,  such as meeting  a famous person  or  climbing Mount Everest.  The “B” and “C” items could be  things  that are more easily achievable, such as getting in shape,  learning camera skills,  taking up fly fishing, learning  how to  cook French cuisine.

Each  week,  one ticket will  be drawn,  and  someone’s “B” or “C” item  will  become reality.   Their ticket will go back in the barrel,  and the grand prize,   which is the awarding of the “A”  list item,  will be drawn  at the gala.'”It’s about changing the way we live and think” says Flood  “It’s really about living our best life,  getting out there and rejoicing in our  own experiences  and excitement and  enjoying other peoples.”

The project has been developed in conjunction with UNLTD Media Events and CBIG- the Canadian Benefits Investment & Insurance Group in Prince George.

The gala  is a fundraiser for  the Prince George Hospice Society ,  guest  speaker will be Ben Nemtin  from the  MTV  series on bucket lists “The Buried Life”.  During that series,  he and  three friends  hit the road in a motor home in an effort  achieve their bucket list  dreams  which included appearing on the Oprah Winfrey show,  asking Taylor Swift  for a date, and playing basketball with former U.S. President Barrack Obama.

While participating in the facebook  page  and social media portion of this initiative is free,   tickets for the gala go on sale  tomorrow  at noon  at  Central Interior Ticketing.

Donna Flood says while  there is a fundraising component to the campaign,   it’s  so much more than that “When  I look at this,  I look at it through the lens of how do we create a community that really values living and supports each other in achieving the goals?”
