‘Out of Control’ Wildfire Southwest of Lac La Hache Growing
Williams Lake, B.C. – A wildfire burning 40 kilometres southwest of Lac La Hache has more than quadrupled in size.
The fire was discovered yesterday and was originally mapped at eight hectares. That has now grown to 36 hectares.
The BC Wildfire Service says 55 firefighters, one helicopter, two pieces of heavy equipment and airtankers are currently battling the blaze.
“The fire has control lines around 100 per cent of the perimeter however we are still classifying it as out of control,” says fire information officer Natasha Broznitsky.
“Due to the fact we are not confident at this time it will not spread beyond our control lines.”
She adds the fire is not a threat to public safety or property though it is burning “in close proximity to transmission lines.”
“Authorities have been notified and there has been no change in the proximity since last night.”
Smoke is visible from nearby communities. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
