No Word on When Legislature Will Resume
Prince George, B.C. – Premier designate, John Horgan hasn’t pinned down a date for when the Legislature will resume following yesterday’s non confidence vote which ousted the Christy Clark Government.
He has indicated he would like to do it “quickly” but first must have himself and cabinet sworn in. There has been no word on when that will take place.
Horgan has assured the Lieutenant Governor he can provide a stable government.
There is, once again, the issue of who will be speaker of the House.
Steve Thomson resigned from the post shortly after the non-confidence motion passed, meaning the NDP/Green alliance will have to come up with someone else to fill that chair. With one from their own ranks taking the position, it will leave both sides of the House with equal numbers, 43 Liberals and 43 NDP/Greens.
The Speaker can cast a tie breaking vote, and traditionally has cast that vote in favour of the government.
