Highway 5 Crash Update

Valemount B.C. – RCMP say the crash on Highway 5 this morning that  left one person dead,   was the result of an attempt to pass a semi.

The crash  took place  around 6:30 this morning in the 9500 block of Highway 5,   about 6 kms south of  Tete Jaune Cache.

RCMP say  the two vehicles involved in this head on crash were  a pick up truck and a sedan, both vehicles were located in the southbound ditch of the highway.

The initial investigation indicates  the driver of the pickup truck, who was travelling northbound, was trying to pass a semi-truck, when it collided head on with the southbound sedan, forcing both vehicles into the southbound ditch.

The driver of the sedan is deceased,  while the driver and passenger in the pickup truck sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The highway is currently closed and will remain so for several more hours, however there is a currently a detour in place on Blackman Road .
