Big Blaze Prompts Evacuation Alert for 100 Mile Area
100 Mile House, B.C. – The Cariboo Regional District has issued an evacuation alert for all properties in the 105 Mile House, 108 Mile House West of Highway 97, and Lily Pad Lake areas.
The alert is affecting 1,800 properties and is on top of the earlier evacuation orders affecting 33 properties in the Tatton Station Road area.
All this due to the growing 1,200-hectare wildfire located at Gustafsen Forest Service Road – approximately seven kilometres west of 100 Mile House.
The fire started yesterday and has grown from an estimated 500-hectares last night.
One hundred and twenty firefighters, six helicopters, 15 pieces of heavy equipment and a 25-person incident management team have been deployed to fight the blaze.
The CRD has also set up an emergency social services reception centre at the Curling Rink on Airport Road in 100 Mile House for affected residents.
The CRD’s EOC public information line is 250-398-5117.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
