Wildfires Close Portions of Highways 97 & 20
Williams Lake, B.C. – A busy day of fighting wildfires continues for the BC Wildfire Service.
The provincial agency reports multiple forest fires in the Alexis Creek area (about an hour and a half west of Williams Lake) – including one that has jumped Highway 20 by Taseko Lake Road halfway between the Stone Reserve and the Anaham Reserve.
There is no fire protection in the area and Highway 20 is being closed at Lee’s Corner by Taseko Lake Road.
The BC Wildfire Service says lighting strikes have also sparked two fires in the Quesnel area – one at Dragon Mountain and another at Maize Creek.
Both are in remote areas with few residences in the immediate proximity. No further information is available regarding either fire at the moment though 250News will update the situation as soon as possible.
Earlier today a wildfire in Ashcroft closed Highway 1 in both directions between Ashcroft and Cache Creek.
The wildfire near 100 Mile House has also closed Highway 97 2 kilometers north of 100 Mile House to 17 kilometers north of Lac La Hache. No detours are currently available.
No word yet on when the highways will reopen.
