Prince George, B.C. – It looks like tonight’s lightning storm has sparked another fire – this time in the Prince George area.
Fire information officer Donna MacPherson with the BC Wildfire Service says details are scant now but confirms there is a fire about two kilometres west of the Otway Nordic Ski Club.
“The fire is just in our jurisdictional area, not in fire department jurisdiction as previously thought,” she says. “We have an initial attack crew of three that have just arrived to the fire. I don’t have any more information about the fire yet they’re just setting up.”
MacPherson says the Prince George Fire Centre has responded to over 50 fire starts today.
250News will update the status of the blaze as soon as more details become available.

Must be the night of fires. Went inside about 5:20 pm when a thunderous lightning bolt struck the ground about 70 yards from my house.Looking intently in that direction i start to see smoke billowing into the air so i race over and couldnt believe the size that the fire had climbed to. Phoned forestry and my neighbour who phoned another and so on. Together with all hands on deck we managed to get the upper hand and had it extinguished in no time. Pretty scary for a while. Great big thankyou to the citizens of Miworth for all their help. Very much appreciated!!
