Wildfire Evacuees Approaching 7000

Prince George, B.C. – The number of wildfire evacuees seeking refuge in Prince George continues to climb.

As of late this morning, the City of Prince George says the number of evacuees who have registered at the Emergency Reception Centre at CNC was 6,773 (5,404 adults and 1,369 children).

The City also provided a breakdown of where those evacuees are staying:

  • 576 are in group lodging
  • 672 are in RV parking
  • 3,360 have found alternative accommodation
  • 587 have found commercial lodging

The installation of beds at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre was completed last night bringing the total number of beds there to nearly 700.

On the volunteer front, the City’s Volunteer PG Centre registered 387 new volunteers on its first day of operations.

Since the beginning of the wildfires last weekend, the City says roughly 1,400 people have registered as volunteers in the city.
