Burnoff Temporarily Compounds Cariboo Smoke Cover

Williams Lake, B.C. – The thick blanket of smoke covering the region around Williams Lake is being added to for a time due to a controlled burnoff on the 150 Mile House wildfire.
BC Wildfire Service Information Officer Noelle Kekula says the burn is being conducted today to help create a clear, safe perimeter in which ground crews can work.
The burn, however, is creating a significant smoke column in the area however Kekula notes that the controlled blaze is being supported by aircraft.
The 150 Mile House wildfire covers approximately 2,600 hectares. There are 96 firefighters, 22 pieces of heavy equipment, air support and additional support staff battling that fire.
