Clinton Under Evacuation Alert

Friday, July 14, 2017 @ 9:13 PM

Clinton BC – Due to the threat of wildfire the village of Clinton has now issued an evacuation alert for that community.

Officials with the Thompson-Nicola Regional District Emergency Operations Centre say that only the Chasm Mill site is exempt from this alert, which also has been issued to the owners of seven properties south of Clinton.   Residents will be given as much advance warning as possible prior to the evacuation, however they may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.

In the event an evacuation is required residents will be directed to travel to Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops.

Meantime an evacuation order has been issued for a total of 376 properties around Loon Lake.  Affected residents have been told to leave immediately and report to the Emergency Social Services Reception Centre at TRU.  People in the evacuation area are being told to drive south on Highway 97 toward Cache Creek where they will be escorted through that village before proceeding to Kamloops on Highway 1.
