Progress Being Made on Sutherland Road Fire

Tuesday, July 18, 2017 @ 11:49 AM

Prince George, B.C. –  With most media outlets focusing attention on the fires   devastating the Cariboo,  and the evacuation of thousands from that region,  there has been  little  said about  the blaze that  has been raging in the Regional District of Bulkley Nechako.

The Sutherland  Road fire,   north of Fort Fraser,  is estimated to be 1590 hectares in size, and while 90% contained,   it is  still listed as “out of control”.  An evacuation alert and restricted access order  remain in place  in that area.

Then there is the Big Bend Creek  Fire,  ( Finger Lake/Tatuk Lake area) .  It is  estimated to be 2,062 hectares in size.   This fire  did see some increased activity yesterday.  The BC Wildfire Service says while this fire is 90%  guarded,  it is not  “contained”.
