Prince George, B.C. – Those wanting to register their bicycles on the digital registration, reporting and recovery network, 529 Garage can do so starting tonight.

Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass says Mounties will be at the Otway Recreational Area from 5-8 p.m.

Several more registration opportunities have been scheduled for later this month as well (see schedule below).

“Since the beginning of April, police and volunteers have registered more than 700 bikes in our community,” he says. “This is more than all of 2016 and we still have more than two months to go in the riding season. We have registered nearly 1,400 bikes in total since we began this partnership in June 2016. Our goal remains to complete 2,000 before winter arrives this year.”

In addition to the scheduled registration dates, Douglass says Mounties will be holding registration events during the lunch hour on Thursdays this month at their detachment on Victoria Street.

Douglass estimates the free registration process takes about five minutes and includes essential information such as ownership details, serial number and photos of the bicycle.

“In the event of a theft, the information can easily be distributed to other registered riders through an alert feature on the smart phone app. The information can also be easily provided to both the police and insurance companies.”
