Prince George, B.C. – Volunteer PG is recruiting volunteers to help assist those evacuated due to wildfires in B.C.

“We have two shifts,” says general manager Wendy Pollard. “The 7:30 a.m. to noon, the noon to 4 and we’re recruiting for people that have done registration or renewals. They have to have the training for that.”

She says they’re also seeking volunteers to fill a shift this Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until noon.

Pollard says they need a dozen people per shift and says the call for more volunteers has become necessary as volunteers who stepped forward last month start to burn out or head out on holidays.

She says over 800 people registered the first day the City of Prince George sought their help.

“I want to thank the volunteers. They’ve done an amazing job. They stepped up and showed everybody that Prince George is the volunteer city.”

Anyone interested in helping is asked to call 250-614-7835.

Duties will include check in/check out, renewals and paper work.

The City estimates there are roughly 60 evacuees still on site at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre, including those in tents.
