Prince George, B.C. – It may be hot and sunny outside but that hasn’t deterred dozens of young hockey players from across the North hitting the ice for the Prince George Spruce Kings Hockey School starting this week at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

Newly promoted Spruce Kings head coach Adam Maglio is leading this year’s camp and says he’s glad to be back on the ice.

“This is really enjoyable from a coaching stand point. I mean, working with the community and the youth is always really rewarding and we enjoy giving back this way.”

He says the camp – which runs each week through Aug. 25 – is beneficial for the players.

“It’s great. You get on the ice before tryouts – lots of these kids have developmental rep tryouts coming up,” says Maglio.

“And in the third week we’ll have more of our own players out here as instructors. The first couple of weeks we use lots of local players – major midget players, some local junior players.”

As for the Spruce Kings themselves, he says they start camp Aug. 24.

“I’m excited. We have a good group coming back and we have some really exciting players coming in and we have high expectations this year to have success.”
