Cariboo Back Country Off Limits

Friday, August 11, 2017 @ 1:10 PM

Prince George B.C. –  The entire backcountry  throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre  is off limits as of 1:30 this  afternoon.

Given the current wildfires,  and  a forecast that is calling for  increased wind  and little rain on the weekend,  the danger is too great to allow access  to  Crown Lands in the back country.

The fire danger rating throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre is  rated as extreme.

The area restriction will not  apply to commercial operators.

The restriction means  no one is allowed  in the back country unless the person has the proper  authorization  to :

(a) Travelling to or from his or her principle residence;
(b) Using a highway as defined in the Highway Act;
(c) Travelling as a person acting in an official capacity; or
(d) Travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression activities.

The  restriction is in place until September 5th,  but  could be  lifted  earlier should conditions  improve.
