Tragic Fire in Hudson’s Hope Under Investigation

Saturday, August 12, 2017 @ 6:48 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Police in Hudson’s Hope are investigating a fire that ended with tragic consequences but say at this time that the blaze does not appear suspicious in nature.

Shortly before 3 pm Wednesday, August 9th, police were called to a house fire and found the structure had collapsed and flames were still visible.  People outside were trying to contain the fire and keep it from spreading to nearby grass and forest.

RCMP officers were told that all occupants got out of the house and were at a neighbour’s.  They went to that residence and learned that a 2 1/2-month-old baby girl who had been taken out of the burning building had died.  The baby’s father sustained severe burns to his upper body and face as he tried to save the child.  He was airlifted out of Hudson’s Hope for treatment of his injuries.

Fire and police investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire but say at this early stage of the probe that they do not suspect the fire to be suspicious.
